As far as rest stop goes this rest area is far above the rest. This rest are was very welled kept and beautifully designed. If you didn't know it was a rest stop you wouldn't 😴 have known it by it's appearance. Enjoyed it very much.

This is the nicest rest area we have been to in California - and that says a lot considering how nice most rest stops are in CA. There are roomy, separate parking areas for semi trucks, cars and RVs. This location has several picnic tables in wooded surroundings, large bear-proof trash cans, the large bathrooms are clean, well-stocked and warm. There is a large bank of vending machines with snacks and drinks. You can use also the PayRange app to make purchases from several machines if you don’t have cash. After making the drive over the summit, it’s nice to have a place to stop & have lunch en route to Sacramento.

Not sure why they had this closed for so many months since not much has changed, but it is situation exactly where I tend to need to stop on a trip from Reno to the Sacramento Valley (and it's the last rest area until you get to Vallejo as you enter the Bay Area.) Plenty of parking for RVs as well, not blended in with big trucks like the eastbound side.
If you're tired, it's a good place to nap as there's usually shaded areas morning or evening given the terrain and trees.
