The view is nice and very quiet as it is a good ways off the road. It’s a great place to stop for relaxation or to take the dogs to roam after a long car ride. However, THE BATHROOMS ARE NOT 24/7 AND THERE IS NO PORTAPOTTIES. So unless you want to find a secluded spot to pee in the woods like a dog yourself DO NOT GO HERE AFTER 10 PM.
Before 10pm the restrooms/visitor center is fairly clean and well kept but there are no vending machines or water fountains to quench your thirst

Very clean, well kept rest area. Has a full playground just past the main building in the overlook area, a slide, swings etc, probably can handle 10 kids. Beautiful view up river.

Mississippi Rapids Rest Area was the perfect place to stop for a picnic lunch while on our road trip to Texas. The facility was clean and had wonderful picnic areas overlooking the mighty Mississippi River. I would highly recommend stopping along your journey or even just to picnic in a fantastic location.

Nice view, lots of tree shade, two parking lots, and a pull thru before you enter. No room for a semi, but under 40 feet ok. Nice restrooms, nice workers. Dog friendly. Limited water.

Nice view of the Mississippi from parts of this park/rest stop.
Two distinct areas available after quite a meandering drive. The first rest stop is at least a quarter mile drive once you leave the freeway and pass through a 16 foot tall chain link gate.
Bathrooms were open as of May 2021, but it looks like the rest of the state is closed until further notice.

The rest area is a little over half a mile from the interstate. There are NO signs of hours of operation for the bathrooms or parking restrictions. However, Johnny law isn't even aware of it's proper hours. A cop came and harassed me and my family while we rested in the REST AREA. I was told that it is not a rest area but an observatory and if I wanted to take a moment to rest, that I could park outside the gate that was open. Neither the state police or the Hampton Police could provide correct information.

Much further from interstate than expected when taking exit. Very secluded. Encountered a chubby Jeffrey Dahmer lookalike walking along roadside with a rifle crossbow. I'm sure very few people read reviews of rest stops, but should you read this before stopping, I highly recommend against it. You go from a well lit, well traveled interstate to "Deliverance" within minutes. Absolutely do not go here after dark.

Nice spot to stop for a bit, when open. Limited parking and no truck parking which is clearly marked upon approach. There is a last chance spot to turn around if you accidentally pull in. Some RV parking for shorter vehicles, signs say 40 feet or less which seems reasonable. Theres a playground, restrooms, dog walk, etc. Pretty good view of the bridge over the Mississippi river as well.
