I chose Hudson for all the 5 star ratings, and because I wanted as smooth an experience as possible, so I was willing to pay a premium price for premium service. In the end, I dealt with one person for the quote who was full of promises, but it was clear the movers were unaware of these promises. Then another person dealt with my concerns about my experience by basically telling me "tough luck", and a third person who ran my card even though I had specifically asked them to let me know before they charged by card so I could clear it. None of these people were communicating with each other, which made for a very frustrating experience. Realistically, I could have saved myself a bundle if I'd just hired four random guys and a truck because there was virtually no difference in service. Hudson will tell you that all of their movers are full-time employees. Evidently, not true. The four guys who came to my place were freelancers, and they scoffed at how much I was paying for the move. One of them handed me his business card for "next time". Of the four men, two seemed very capable and efficient, and two were clearly new. There was no system or technique to their move. A couple guys were often idle while the other movers were lifting heavy items. There were many smoke breaks and one meal break which I was told I wouldn't be charged for, but I was. In any case, it was a very long day, especially due to the snow storm that piled up 8 cm of snow that day. This made the travel time to my place over an hour (on the clock), and even though the snow had stopped and roads were quite clear by the end of the day, I was charged over an hour again for their return to the depot. By the end of the move, they were all complaining about how hard the move was, which I thought was laughably unprofessional. It's clear many folks have had a great experience with Hudson, but for those for whom there is a hiccup or a problem of any kind, be aware that you will shoulder all of the risk, including weather or getting the B team instead of the A team. Hudson will not meet you halfway in the slightest, nor will they compromise the almighty buck in favour of making a customer happy, or the chance of a referral or repeat business. Moving is stressful in the best of cases, and Hudson will do little to ease the burden. Proceed with caution.
