Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Charlotte/University Place

A sincere thank you to Mrs. Debora McClellan, the morning desk clerk at Microtel University Charlotte. We had a two night three day stay at her hotel not knowing the area we booked through Priceline for a hotel close to our venue it was not as nice as we thought. Our room was very dirty but we had arrived late and check in was very busy. The next morning we described our room to Mrs. Debora and she not only moved us to a freshly cleaned room which was like checking into a completely different hotel she also made sure to let management and staff know exactly what was wrong with our previous room. She went the extra mile to make sure the rest of our stay was clean and comfortable. Without her we would have checked into another hotel and this review would be a as close to a negative star review as they would allow me to leave. Excellent customer service, she was friendly, attentive, open, honest, and made sure to try to get the issues corrected. Our stay was better and we appreciate her dedication to her clients and her job.

Wyndham should be ashamed to have their name associated with this hotel. Smoke smell strong in rooms. Shower rods either coming out of wall or really loose. We were in 3 rooms before we settled for the night. The late night and morning staff were helpful but that is the only good we have to say about the stay.

This was my absolute worst hotel experience. Nothing went right. The hotel reeks of cigarette and weed smoke, making the sign in the lobby about smoking fines a complete joke. The key cards rarely worked, and there were bugs in the bathroom. There was no hot water and no complimentary breakfast. Instead of a smoke alarm, wires were just dangling from the ceiling. Only one light in the room worked. The hotel also felt incredibly unsafe. We came in to see a concert, and both Lyft drivers said the Microtel had a bad reputation in Charlotte. People were wandering around the parking lot at all hours, and one man was outside drinking straight from a bottle of Hennessey. I don't recommend staying here at all, especially if you're women traveling alone. Spend the extra money elsewhere for some peace of mind, hot water, and a bug-free room.

I normally enjoy coming to this hotel with my boyfriend but our recent stay was terrible. My phone was stolen out of my room , it was left on the charger on the bed in plain sight it was a red iPhone, I asked the lady at the front desk about it she claims “nobody steals in this hotel” and I know house keeping seen it because when I came back my bed was made up and clean with no phone but the charger was still in the wall. The lady at the front desk came in the room and looked herself and seen it wasn’t nowhere to be found. I asked to check the cameras because it was 2 cameras in the hallway right where my phone was , she was trying her best not to even look at the cameras and she kept getting smart with me. Kept defending the house keepers saying it probably got mixed up in the covers which I know That’s not true because the phone was on top of the bed.

Thanks to the front desk lady who works late in the day. I didn’t get her name. She works in the evening. She always goes above and beyond to help the guests. It was a nice stay for 4 days without much issues. The rooms were clean and well maintained. It is worth for the money you pay. The hotel is walkable to Blue Lynx station. I requested for late check out, the same lady was very helpful and understanding to accept my request. I checked out late in the noon since my flight was in the evening and the office colleagues work remotely on Friday. I will visit this place again if I get chance. This hotel is very near to lots of hotels and eateries.

The front desk woman name Jackie was extremely uninviting. She acted as if she hates her job or didn't want to see me. I was smiling and kind and tired from driving for multiple hours. I just wanted a nice person to greet me. She was the worse. The room was actually clean and really small.

Place smells badly of weed even if in non smoking area. No organization when checking in. One worker even though it was mid afternoon phone ringing off hook. Worker seemed beyond overwhelmed. Mirrors everywhere in the room and bathroom and a weird little cot that was in the window above air conditioner for an additional bed.

Near to metro station( train) and university, Worst hotel I have ever lived in, it was a huge mistake booking this hotel. They say it’s a smoke free hotel but still I experienced the smoke in my room, it was highly stinking i I checked-in at 11 pm to i hasn’t requested to change it. But the next morning I requested and they changed it. The other room was ok but the washbasin was clogged and I informed at the front desk but no plumbing came till 11 pm after that I checked out from the hotel. I have given 1 star because there us no zero star. But yes at least the staff in morning & afternoon are nice. The lady who stay in the night looks rude and weird attitude so i was also scared to ask her for changing the room. But the manager and other staffs are very kind & please full.

Old and dirty appearance of hallways and rooms. Rooms are very noisy from outside sources. TV remote did not fully work and breakfast items were few and unappetizing. Some non-guests were present that looked sketchy at best.

Customer service at the front desk was good, for the most part very helpful and friendly. I did hear 2 different answers on the same question and though that was off putting that they weren't on the same page, I still have no complaints about my experience with the front desk staff. Reasonable prices compared to other hotels. The housekeeping staff I experienced wasn't the best not in regards on how they cleaned but to how we seemed to get dirty looks from 2-3 individuals. One in particular was a employee mopping the floor and definitely gave off a very unhappy energy. She stopped what she was doing to look at me and my companion in the oddest and pretty rude way. I, having worked in a housekeeping position before know the hard work that goes into housekeeping. That does not mean that type of experience should be tolerated and I hope management speaks to them about providing the good customer service that they are paid to provide. It was unwelcoming. Again, this was merely on the attitude and not how they cleaned because our room was cleaned wonderfully. Other minor cons: There were ants in the room that seemed to make it's way to the bed so that was not the most pleasant but we dealt with it. We also booked a room with a queen bed but received one with a full size bed instead.
